DUNES

Long a favorite subject of photographers, sand dunes, especially in early morning or late day light create highly graphic and potentially abstract images.

During my time living in Colorado, I made many trips to Great Sand Dunes NP and White Sands NP.  I present a group of four photographs:

Comments about Iconic, Heavily Photographed Landscapes:  There are good arguments to avoid photographing places that are heavily visited and photographed.  Do we really need another photograph of Half Dome or Delicate Arch?  However, these places are iconic because they are so spectacular, so beautiful that I would argue that these places can still produce arresting and inspiring photographs provided that the photographer sets the bar quite high.  I would also argue that these places are superb teachers, great places to learn and gain control of the essential craftsmanship necessary to make high quality photographs.
